It's time to get away and you want to book a flight to a far away land. Here are the best ways to do it and save a lot of money as you do.

1. KEEP YOUR SEARCHES SECRET

So many people in the Digi-teach community work online and tend to enjoy travelling to far away countries. For those of you that want it to be more of an ‘idea’ read on, we’ve got you covered.

When booking flights the first thing you should do is add the chrome extension DuckDuckGo.

This is a great extension that replaces your normal search engine but with the bonus of not being tracked!

Why is this important?

Because when you are visiting websites with all those amazing flights as you flip from one to the other, they tend to play a very typical marketing game which is to increase their prices when you return to their site.

Why do they do this?

Becuase they want you to think that they are the company giving you the best value for money so to encourage you to book with them they send the direct message through their price increase of, this is what happens if you don’t grab that flight with us first. Kind of like that – missed opportunity scenario.

However with DuckDuckGo you can forget all that and move on to the next part of the flight process selection, which is who should you book with.

We have found the following sites to be really competitive for prices, so why not have a look. We have also added some tips on getting the best prices with them.

2. USE RATED FLIGHT SEARCH ENGINES

Kayak Is a great website because through it you can research literally hundreds of travel sites at once.

It is easy to use and very quick and easy to book through. Make sure you use the ‘explore’ feature as shown above as this gives you access to more flights and potentially better price comparisons.

Secretflying.com is an absolute gem that we were glad to come across because you can really get some crazy, cheap, flight prices here.

Basically this site is a massive advertising website for cheap flights. They scan the internet far and wide and get some seriously crazy , cheap flight prices. They also have a particularly interesting page for wrongly priced flights.

Here you can find flights that would normally be pretty pricey to be very cheap. The law states that even if the flight company realise that it was a mistake, they have to respect the advertised price. So you could be quids in with this one!

3. IDENTIFY THE CHEAPEST DAY TO FLY ON

CHOOSE THE CHEAPEST DAY TO FLY ON WITH SKYSCANNER

Skyscanner, Is a flight search engine but with a difference. They want to offer the most affordable options from flights to hostels and hotels and have a great app too, which is both easy to use and very informative.

They have a really neat feature on their website called the ‘Search everywhere’ feature which allows users to search the cheapest  destinations that they can fly to.

4. DECIDE HOW YOU ARE GOING TO PAY

One of the best multi currency cards we recommend is Transferwise.

If you haven’t come across Transferwise yet, you need to.

Transferwise is an online bank that operates as a multi-currency account but with a difference.

The costs are FREE for many of the services offered or at a price that is much cheaper than anywhere else we have currently found.

Forget going to your local, high street bank to change up currency. That’s the old way and one of the most expensive ways to change up currency.

Transfterwise

With Transferwise you can change currency from one currency account to another on your phone at the cheapest conversion rate currently anywhere.

Plus the conversion is super fast. Anything from two hours, to two days.

There are so many savings to be had with this account, so we have listed a few here.

5. THINK ABOUT SIGNING UP FOR A TRAVEL REWARD CARD

A travel card to be a great way of earning back money that your going to spend anyway, if you are considering travelling.

In this example below from Cardratings.com

You can get $750 back when you spend $4000 purchases in the first 3 months. That could pay for the accomodation for example, or another flight somewhere else!
